Improvement in new Income Tax e-filing portal – Updates

Despite all the glitches related to the Income Tax  Department’s e-filing portal by contractor Infosys, the Finance Ministry on Wednesday “gradually resolved” several technical issues and reflected a positive trend in the figures. About the various filings on the website.

More than 8.83 crore special taxpayers logged in till Tuesday, with a daily average of over 15.55 lakh in September. Income tax return (ITR) filings increased to 3.2 lakh per day in September and 1.19 crore ITRs were filed for AY 2021-22. Of these, 76.2 lakh taxpayers used the portal’s online utility to file returns, the official statement said.

More than 94.88 lakh ITRs have been e-certified, of which 7.07 lakh ITRs have been processed.

Taxpayers were able to view over 8.74 lakh notices issued by the department under Faceless Assessment / Appeal / Penal Proceedings, to which over 2.61 lakh responses were filed. An average of 8,285 notices are issued for e-proceedings and 5,889 responses are filed every day in September 2021.

10.8 lakh legal forms including 7.86 lakh TDS statements, 1.03 lakh Form 10A for registration of trusts / institutions, 0.87 lakh Form 10E for salary arrears and 0.10 lakh Form 35 for appeal have been submitted.

On the Aadhaar-PAN link

66.44 lakh taxpayers have been linked to Aadhaar-PAN and over 14.59 lakh have been allotted e-PAN. 0.50 lakh taxpayers are getting these two facilities every day this month.

Income tax e-filing portal- www.incometax.gov.in- launched on June 7 this year. Since then taxpayers have reported errors and problems on the portal.

The ministry said it was regularly monitoring issues with Infosys Limited, the managing services provider for the project.

It also stated that the department is constantly engaged with Infosys to ensure a smooth filing experience for taxpayers.
